Sports Massage seeks to prepare the athlete for optimum performance, to reduce the potential for injury and to help remediate some of the physical and physiological stresses created during exercise. Sports Massage may be used before, between and after athletic events (the type of massage for each is, of course, slightly different). The most prevelent use of sports massage is in the prevention and treatment of injuries. For example, you may have heard of such terms as 'Tennis Elbow ', 'Shin Splints', 'Carpel and Tarsel Tunnel Syndrome', 'Tendonitis', 'Frozen Shoulder' or 'Runner's Knee'- just a few of the many conditions sports massage is capable of treating. Equally, sports massage has a significant role in maintaining flexibility/elasticity and in encouraging healing and a return to homeostasis.
